Buongiorno e Buonasera: Authentic, Roman style pizza in Marylebone

Buongiorno e Buonasera offers a lighter take on doughy classic... here's why we love it

Buongiorno e Buonasera offers delicious Roman style pizza
Popular Oxford pizzeria Buongiorno e Buonasera has swung open the doors to its first London home on Baker Street. Yes, we know, Marylebone certainly isn’t short of pizza options. But Buongiorno e Buonasera is offering something a little bit different in that it’s bringing authentic Roman style pizza to an area over-saturated with Neapolitan pizza. What’s the difference? Romana pizzas offer a lighter dough with just as much flavour. Plus, the oval-shaped pizza bases at Buongiorno e Buonasera are organic, made with non-GMO wheat, soy and rice flour, and leavened for a whole 48 hours.

The name Buongiorno e Buonasera translates as ‘good day and good evening’, a promise the restaurant lives up to with its all-day offering. In the morning you can pop in for a coffee, pastry or Italian-style breakfast (we’ve been eyeing up the porcini mushrooms with eggs and truffle). Meanwhile ice cream and sorbet from famous Italian gelato makers Carpigiani is available by the scoop to take away. Pizza is, of course, the main event here, with offerings laid out on the deli-style counter. The menu boasts over 20 toppings, each cooked up by Rome native Marco Montuori and available in whole or half size portions. Highlights include the Porcini e Salsiccia with its fusion of porcini mushrooms, Italian sausages, parsley, scamorza cheese cream; and the Romana with its mouth-watering combination of bufala mozzarella, mortadella and pistachio di bronte cream. And, if you’ve got a sweet tooth, be sure to leave room for the Nutella pizza you won’t regret tucking into its warm, chocolatey deliciousness.

Those who are gluten-free or vegan are well looked after at Buongiorno e Buonasera, too. All pizzas are available on a gluten-free base which will be cooked in a separate oven, while pizzas like the Vegana Artichoke cream, Italian spinach, mushrooms and cherry tomatoes are keeping things just as exciting for vegan diners.

Between the wooden furniture and deli-style fridges and shelves, Buongiorno e Buonasera has a real market feel, which comes into its own in the Italian Quality Corner. Here, delicious Italian groceries are sold including the likes of Barilla pasta, Mutti chopped tomatoes, Monini olive oil, Nonno Nanni cheese and Mulino Bianco biscuits. It’s a chance for London foodies to be led by their taste buds and take away exciting, unfamiliar ingredients, but also for Italian natives to satisfy their cravings with a taste of home.
