Max Colson: Virtual Control - Security and the Urban Imagination, RIBA

Big Brother is watching: photographer Max Colson delves into the paranoia of urban surveillance at RIBA exhibition

Max Colson at RIBA London 2015
Photographer Max Colson unravels the frightening reality of camouflaged surveillance technology in the city in a new display at RIBA Practice Space.
What to expect

This curious show investigates how controlled urban areas, which are technically public, but owned by commercial bodies, monitor individuals with countless cameras and sensors. With paranoia at every step, Colson asks whether these areas change how we behave? He even suggests that plants are used to hide security architecture and increased surveillance activity. Colson is also interested in idealized urban environments.
Who is Max Colson?
The British artist and photographer Colson has a fascination with the control of urban space, and often uses stories and fictional characters in his work. He only graduated from the University of Arts London in 2014 with an MA in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography, but already Colson's heightened paranoia surrounding urban surveillance has made him a topical and popular figure.
