The Dan Daw Show, Lilian Baylis Studio

The Dan Daw Show is an uncompromising examination of the intersection between disability and queerness

Gay and disabled, or, as he prefers to put it, queer and Crip, Dan Daw has been at the forefront of dance and disability both in the UK and in his native Australia. He has worked with a number of theatre and dance companies, including Scottish Dance Theatre and Candoco Dance Company, and created his own work in collaboration with a variety of artists, such as Wendy Houstoun and Javier de Frutos.

He returns to Sadler's Wells after a four-year absence with his new collaborative work, The Dan Daw Show, which will have its London premiere in the north London dance house's smaller Lilian Baylis Studio.

In a duet with performer Christopher Owen, formerly of Scottish Dance Theatre, Dan Daw will explore his relationship with his disability and the darker aspects of his sexuality, attempting to reclaim control over himself and his life through what's described as 'a push-pull of living with shame, while bursting with pride.'

The Dan Daw Show was created in collaboration with theatre director, Mark Maughan (Abigail’s Party), movement director Sarah Blanc, who's worked with the Royal Opera House and The Place, and dramaturg Brian Lobel. Composition and sound design is by Guy Connelly.

This promises to be an uncompromising evening, challenging many preconceptions and providing abundant food for thought for days after. It's definitely not for the faint-hearted, but will certainly offer rewards to those prepared to have their minds expanded and hearts touched.

There will be a post-show talk on Thursday 30 September.
The Dan Daw Show contains adult themes and sexual references and his recommended for ages 16+
