Sadler's Wells Family Weekend

The next generation of theatregoers will be captivated by the imaginative dance productions and creative workshops on offer as part of Sadler’s Wells’ next annual Family Weekend.

Tom Dale Company
Mini culture-vultures and their older companions should look forward to being well and truly indulged as the weekend looks sure to be another sell-out success, complete with something for spectators of all ages.
The programme features balletLORENT’s Snow White and Tom Dale Company in partnership with MOKO Dance in Digitopia – A dancing digital wonderland.
After wowing audiences with their acclaimed interpretation of Rapunzel in Spring 2015, balletLORENT are returning to Sadler’s Wells with a mystical adaptation of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale Snow White. Reimagined by Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy, the tale has been fashioned into a fantastical dance theatre production especially for family audiences.
Artistic director Liv Lorent and her team aim to produce heartfelt and beautiful contemporary dance that is inclusive and inviting. Their Snow White puts an inventive spin on the well-loved story of a mother’s poisonous jealousy, exploring thwarted desire, deception, compassion and redemption with magical mirrors, mysterious miners and beauty as pure as the driven snow.
Although produced with families in mind, Snow White does have an age guidance of 7 years and up.
Youngsters aged 5 years and up will be mesmerised by Digitopia – A dancing digital wonderland at the Lilian Baylis Studio.
This bold, innovative show is performed by Tom Dale Company, in partnership with MOKO Dance - a three year project engaging emerging and established choreographers in the production of work for children, young people and their families.
Digitopia transports young audiences into a sci-fi-like world where the usual rules of gravity and physics do not apply. Here, straight lines curve and sound is seen!
The production integrates live urban contemporary dance, electronic music and digital technology. Expect awesome animations of brightly coloured patterns which explode and morph with the movement of the dancers.
Just as in previous years, pre- and post-show activities designed to complement the productions running for Family Weekend will ensure the fun begins before and continues after the main stage performances.
Both productions are offering family dance workshops, while an array of games and arty sessions to get involved with in the foyer will guarantee the weekend is bursting with entertainment suitable for the whole family.
