MOMENTUM - lost & found, Fabula Collective, Sadler's Wells

Fabula Collective was set up in 2019 to bring together new and established dance artists and thus become a catalyst for creativity. Their new programme, MOMENTUM - lost & found comes to Sadler's Wells for a one-off evening presenting no less than seven new short works, all set to specially commissioned music.

The programme showcases Fabula Collective's own associate artists alongside guest artists, most of whom are now following their own path after leaving their long-term companies.

The former include James Pett, a Laban graduate who danced with, among others, Richard Alston Dance Company and Company Wayne McGregor, and Travis Clausen-Knight who's danced for choreographers Wayne McGregor, Matthew Bourne, Michael Clark and Alexander Whitley, to name but a few. Together they choreographed and perform in Serious Game.

Guests for this programme include Cira Robinson, up until this year the long-standing lead ballerina in Ballet Black, who's now pursuing her own interests; Mlindi Kulashe, who used to dance with Northern Ballet, Christopher Marney of Chicago's Joffrey Ballet, Nederlands Dans Theater artists Paxton Ricketts and Madoka Kariya, former Ballet Basel soloist Kihako Narisawa and former Royal Ballet principal Mara Galeazzi.

In a programme that looks determinedly forward, rather than standing still or looking back, the topics the choreographers deal with range from the story of Adam and Eve in Christopher Marney's Eve, performed by Cira Robinson and Mlindi Kulashe and set to an original score by Emmy Award-winner Jennie Muskett: through an exploration of feelings expressed or repressed in Blind to the Depths by Paxton Ricketts, set to music by electropop sound designer Sebastiaan Dutilh and performed by Ricketts himself and the Japanese dancer Madoka Kariya; to the trajectory of the light of a white universe in Trajectory, choreographed by Kihako Narisawa, to a score by Masahiro Hiramoto.

And much more besides.

It all sounds interesting and well worth a visit to Sadler's Wells.
