Echoes of Eternity, Shanghai Ballet at the Coliseum
An ancient Chinese story will be brought to life through classical Western dance when the Shanghai Ballet Company returns to the London Coliseum in August

Jointly produced with Shanghai Grand Theatre, Echoes of Eternity is a contemporary ballet inspired by a legendary poem from Chinese literature.
Written in the eighth century as an epic exploration of love and loss, ‘The Song of Everlasting Regret’ is one of Chinese poet Bai Juyi’s most popular compositions.
Its vivid narrative is a romanticised version of a turbulent real-life affair between Xuanzong, the seventh emperor of the Tang Dynasty, and his treasured consort Lady Yang Yuhuan.
The truly international ballet production features the work of celebrated German-Nigerian choreographer Patrick de Bana.
No stranger to Shanghai Ballet Company, de Bana previously collaborated with this world-renowned troupe of dancers on Jane Eyre in 2012.
With Echoes of Eternity he has once again stepped up to make the most of the power of body language in communicating the intoxicating blend of love, conflict and tragedy found within the verse.
Showing as part of the London Coliseum’s Shanghai Season, Echoes of Eternity promises to be an emotive dance production.
