Cinderella's story of rags to riches and virtue rewarded with true love forever has been a firm favourite of children and adults alike since it was set down in the 17th century by Charles Perrault, and over the centuries has generated any number of versions, films and ballets. In fact, The Royal Opera House is marking the 75th anniversary this year of Ashton's ballet Cinderella, with a brand-new production of one of the best-loved pieces of its repertoire.

Lovely as it is, though, The Royal Ballet's Cinderella is a full evening work, and with an age guidance of 5+ it excludes the youngest balletomanes.

Which is where the company Let's All Dance comes in. Set up in 2010 by artistic director Orit Sutton, it's been producing shows for family audiences for a number of years.

Cinderella,
coming to the Lilian Baylis Studio at Easter time, follows in the footsteps (or should that be dance steps?) of Alice in Wonderland, The Ugly Duckling, The Nutcracker, and Sleeping Beauty, to mention but a few of the company's previous works for children.

This new production reduces the story to a very manageable 50 minutes, but its very clear narrative doesn't stint on the key elements: kind Cinderella, bad stepmother and stepsisters, and fairy godmother who enables Cinderella to go to the ball where she'll meet and fall in love with a handsome prince.

As usual the show will be performed by dancers with a special ability to communicate with small children, and they will be available at the end of each performance to pose for pictures with members of their young audience.

Or even the not-so-young members of the audience, as this Cinderella with its gorgeous music and eye-filling costumes is billed as a show that will charm the whole family.
