Back to the Future in Concert, Royal Festival Hall

Experience the classic '80s film with a live orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall

Marty McFly and Doc Brown are coming to Southbank!
Travel back to the era of leg-warmers and supersized hair-styles in this immersive film screening of Robert Zemeckis’ time-travelling blockbuster Back to the Future. The Southbank Centre is putting on a high-definition screening of the film with a live orchestral performance at the Royal Festival Hall.

This time-defying film has left a permanent mark on much of the way movies are made and loved today. High school teenager Marty McFly (Michael J Fox) finds himself transported 30 years back into the past to 1955 when a science experiment by his friend Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) goes disastrously wrong. He meets younger versions of his parents (Lea Thompson and Crispin Glover) when it then becomes a race against the clock to make sure that they fall in love, otherwise he will cease to exist.

Award-winning composer Alan Silvestri’s score will be brought to life by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Ben Palmer. Robert Zemeckis' landmark sci-fi romp is still arguably one of the most memorable films of the 1980s – making a live rendition of Back to the Future's score by a full 39-piece symphony orchestra sure to impress newcomers and reignite a nostalgic love for die-hard fans. Perhaps leg-warmers could even make a comeback this spring.
