Have A Nice Day has been called the ‘Pulp Fiction of animation’: it’s a whirlwind neo-noir full of humour and violence set in a small town in Southern China. MUBI x NTS radio present this thriller, which follows the bloody fallout after a bag of one million yuan is stolen.

The film won Best Animation Feature at the Golden Horse Awards, cementing director Liu Jian’s place as a pioneering force of independent Chinese animation. Despite this, Have A Nice Day has been controversial – it was criticised by the Chinese government and has faced difficulties with distribution.

This one-off screening will be followed by a live performance by the electronic duo The Shanghai Restoration Project. Their polyrhythmic palette provides the soundtrack to the film.
