New-wave French
The French manicure is a bit like Marmite. Love or loathe, it's going to be one of the most popular styles for spring/summer nails 2020. For the haters, it now comes in all sorts of incarnations other than the standard bridal white. Champion of the pro-French cause is New York manicurist, Julie K, who created this cool, sparkly version for Christian Siriano using our go-to nail brand, Essie, while nail guru Naomi Yasuda used metallics backstage at Bibhu Mohapatra to shake it up a bit. Not so clear cut
Acrylics are usually painted and concealed; however, this season, some of the falsies were left bare, showing flashes of the natural nail underneath. As seen at Halpern and also over at Chromat (their show message was all about empowering women – find out more about their innovative campaign here). Check out the manicurists Eda & Anna Levenson of Lady Fancy Nails Instagram for more inspiration. They employed some logo mania along with the CND colours to add a burst of brightness. The new nude
There were three different nails showcased at Oscar de la Renta, all designed by the brilliant NYC manicurist, Simcha Whitehill, aka Miss Pop to echo the fantastical designs, with ombré French, delicate spots and a multitude of skin-flattering nudes. The brand used backstage is the vegan-friendly and cruelty-free salon range Zoya, from £11.
Crazy 80s
Think Picasso-inspired 80s prints and psychedelic colour that put the fun into manicures this season. Brightly painted leopard print and riotous stripes at Roland Mouret, courtesy of London nail guru Marian Newman packed a powerful mani or pedi punch.
