End-of-summer beauty fixes to try now

SKIN & HAIR PRODUCTS & TREATMENTS TO REPAIR AND RESTORE

Dr Joney De Souza, skin and facial aesthetic expert

'The end of summer usually means drier skin than usual due to sun exposure and increased pigmentation. As autumn kicks in, we should be thinking about getting our skin back into the best condition possible with a good skincare regimen in combination with Picosure to reduce sun damage pigmentation.

Try ZO Skin Health Hydrating Creme, £POA, delivering long-lasting hydration through a dual-peptide formula, which supports skin renewal and improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Ideal for daily use under sunscreen. ZO Skin Health Hydrating Crème, £POA, helps to retain moisture during the cleansing process with soothing properties.

ZO Daily Power Defence, £POA, is a lightweight lotion designed to help protect and repair all skin types and is a must for everyone. Antioxidant protection to combat free radical damage will also help tighten and firm the skin and support the skin's natural mechanism to repair damage and protect against future skin damage.'

'The hardest part of melasma is that it cannot be permanently treated, and flare-ups, particularly after summer, can affect self-esteem and confidence. The use of topical skincare products has been essential in keeping my melasma at bay, but I spend a lot of time in a hot, sunny climate in the summer, and despite my best efforts, my melasma does return; maybe not as bad as it used to be, but enough to bother me. In September, my first point of contact is to combine in-clinic treatments: MOXI with HALO in conjunction with prescription topicals to help even my skin tone immediately.'

Pigmentation Correcting Ampules 7-Day Intensive Brightening Regime, £170

Hydrate & Nourish Hyaluronic & Retinol Day Moisturiser SPF30, £95

Cecilia Ross, skincare expert and facialist

'After excessive sweating during a heatwave, staying hydrated is essential by drinking lots of water and getting enough sleep. This is super-important for protecting the skin. I'd recommend adding a moisturising hyaluronic-based gel or serum to give your skin the moisture it needs without using anything too heavy, which could clog the pores. I love using hyaluronic because long-term use can improve overall skin health and keep your skin flexible, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Try PCA Skin Hyaluronic Acid Boosting Serum, £110

'Antioxidants such as vitamin C are ideal for your morning or evening routine, as they fight free radical damage, including UV rays and pollution, protecting the skin. I'd recommend applying your vitamin C and following with a hydrating moisturiser and then SPF. Vitamin C can also brighten the skin, prevent sun damage, and improve the appearance of dark spots and wrinkles. Great for achieving that golden-hour glow!'

Annee de Mamiel, skin health expert

'When I travel, I always take the cotton masks you can buy from Amazon. When I reach my destination, I soak the mask in de Mamiel Dewy Facial Mist, £60 and pop the impregnated mask over my antioxidant serum. This brings the skin back to life quickly because the antioxidants help repair the damage of being on the plane and all the pollution from recycled air. The mist works well because the whole face is in constant contact with the mist, which hydrates the skin as much as possible. I'm excited to introduce the new New de Mamiel Phyto-P Elixir, £85, your secret weapon targeting super sensitised, reactive and unbalanced complexions.

'My other tip is always to take arnica when flying to help reduce inflammation. Flying is very inflammatory for the system, and taking arnica gets your body back into balance much more quickly.'

Irene Forte, founder & CEO of Irene Forte Skincare

'It is vital to rejuvenate your skin after the summer and to give it some extra hydration. Our Lavender Face Cream contains glutathione, which has been proven a potent antioxidant and is one of my go-to products to use in the autumn as it helps purify and brighten the skin and counteract the appearance of sun damage. The omega-rich oils, hyaluronic acid and vitamin E also gives your skin a much-needed hydration boost. It protects its moisture barrier following months of heat and dryness in the sun.'

Anabel Kingsley, trichologist and brand president at Philip Kingsley

'Scalps tend to get flaky post-summer. Like the skin on your face, the scalp can peel and dry after repeated UV rays and chlorinated water exposure. To get your scalp back on track, shampoo frequently – daily if possible. This will help to remove excess dead skin cells, clear the scalp of flakes and relieve itchiness. For best results, use a calming anti-microbial shampoo until flaking subsides. I recommend our best-selling Flaky Itchy Scalp Shampoo, £27.

'Twice weekly, apply a soothing and hydrating scalp serum. I love our Overnight Scalp Balancing Serum, £27, which hydrates and gently exfoliates your scalp and helps regulate oil production.

'It would help if you took extra care not to scratch and irritate your scalp when brushing and styling. Choose a gentle brush with rounded, plastic prongs and use a low to medium heat setting when you blow-dry.

'It is never a good idea to pull your hair back tightly, as it places undue traction on the scalp, hair follicle, and the hair itself. However, this is even more the case when your scalp is flaky or irritated, and your hair is parched. Go for looser hairstyles, such as messy buns.'

'Summer can take a toll on your hair, leaving it dry and damaged and the colour being out of whack. Revive your hair with a deep-conditioning mask once a week: Olaplex No. 3 Hair Perfector to restore your hair's health and shine. If your hair colour has faded in the sun, consider using a colour-enhancing shampoo or conditioner.

'Kérastase Colour Shampoo and Conditioner (the Chroma Absolu range) are excellent choices to preserve and revitalise your hair colour. Enriched with glycerin, amino acid and hyaluronic acid, Bain Chroma Respect provides intense care and nourishment, leaving the hair feeling hydrated, reinforced and protected.'

Frances Prescott, celebrity make-up artist and skincare expert

'As a make-up artist and facialist, whenever seasons change, there is usually some issue to deal with as a leftover from that previous season. I find this with models on shoots and my private clients who come to me for treatments.

With post-summer skin, the things that take their toll are exposure to UVA (even without the sun), chlorine in pools, pollution, and we generally tend to sweat more in summer, which can further aggravate and cause dryer skin.

I always recommend products to protect, soothe and repair skin, and these are some of my favourites;

I love the INKEY LIST Glucoside Serum, £11.99. It's full of antioxidants and great for calming and reducing redness and irritation. I love that it can be used morning and night under a chosen moisturiser, and I've found it improves the texture and skin tone. It's a great' treat' for any skin type, although they recommend it for sensitive, but I use it on my dry skin. And I highly recommend it for any skin type.

Another favourite to hydrate and repair skin is Beauty Pie Triple Hyaluronic Sheet Masks, £50 (member price, £20). I keep them in my professional make-up kit and have found them a great 'prep' for models travelling lots where skin can look tired and lacklustre. It's a great mask to plump and repair for dehydrated and a lovely 'at home' facial treat.

I discovered Katherine Daniels products this year and used their Pure Pigment Foundation Drops, £40, on my recent beauty/fashion shoot.

It's a gorgeous foundation and skin care product in one. It's soothing and calming for stressed skin. You can use the pigment drops alone as a concealer or mix it with their Daily Defence to create a lovely sheer foundation that protects from UVA, pollution and blue light damage. Don't be put off by needing to mix the two - I was sceptical - but it's worth it. It's a great product, and sometimes mix the pigment drops with my moisturiser … shhh, don't tell Katherine!'

Margo Marrone, founder of The Organic Pharmacy

'As you know, after sun exposure, skin can become dry and flaky. It's important to exfoliate and remove these dead skin cells to reveal smooth and naturally glowing skin. Dry brushing is a great way to achieve this; dead skin cells are removed with each circular movement, and pores are unclogged. Next, add a rich moisturiser with great shea butter, and then top up your glow with a self-tan. Victoria Beckham loves the Organic Pharmacy Self Tan, free of all toxins. This self-tan works in three hours to give skin a natural and radiant finish while ensuring your skin is kept hydrated and smooth.'

The Organic Pharmacy Skin Brush, £20

The Organic Pharmacy Rose Body Lotion, £35.99

Dr Zainab Laftah, Consultant Dermatologist at GetHarley

"It's not unusual to experience an acne breakout during the summer. The excess sweat and oil can clog pores and lead to breakouts. A salicylic acid daily wash is a great way to tackle this. Salicylic acid is oil soluble, so it penetrates deep into the oil glands to break the bonds and unclog pores. My product recommendations are Cerave SA Cleanser, £14 and La Roche-Posay Effaclar Micro Peeling Cleanser, £16."

"Often breakouts on the back are mistaken for inflammatory acne. However, it is often caused by a mild yeast infection. This is more common in the summer due to the excess sweat. Certain shampoos with anti-yeast properties look for ingredients such as ketoconazole 2%) and can be used as a body wash to help treat the yeast Malassezia infection. My product recommendations are Nizorel Shampoo, £7.28."

Susannah Taylor, Beauty Editor, Creator The Glow Gazette

"As a long-standing Beauty Editor and Creator of the Glow Gazette, I would say, a mega glow requires a perfectly primed canvas. There's no point in spending money on beautiful make-up if your skin still carries around the dregs of the summer. September is a great time for a skin reset, so here are some of my post-summer skincare essentials.

I've been investing in LED beauty tech. I'll be honest: I was sceptical of all the rather scary-looking red light masks on the market, but then I tried one - the Omnilux Contour Mask - It's £348, I know, it's a lot, but a few facials will add up to this much too. Why do I like it? Well, Omnilux is the go-to LED light therapy that facialists and dermatologists have been using in salons for over 20 years. In short, I trust the brand's technology. This device is also said to be the most powerful at-home LED device on the market in the world right now.

Using medical grade red and near-infrared light, it works by triggering biochemical reactions in the skin, reducing inflammation and boosting collagen, as well as helping reduce scarring, sun damage, lines and acne. I have been wearing it for 10 minutes, 4 days a week, for about two months (I lie down and do some deep breathing whilst it's on; sometimes I do it before bed). My husband and kids think I'm a freak (the youngest is terrified), but my skin is less pigmented and much more vibrant for it."

Dr Angela Tewari, Consultant Dermatologist at GetHarley

"Your skin will be feeling dryer after sunshine exposure as well as your hair. Think about re-introducing moisture factors into your skin and hair. I love products containing urea and hyaluronic acid. My current favourite is the Brazilian Bum Bum Body Butter, £48, which I use all over; Eucerin Cream, £16.50 containing urea; and Cerave smoothing cream, £22. For your hair, I recommend any products containing argan oil, which are non-greasy but also re-introduce moisture into the hair."
