William Kentridge is South Africa's most prominent contemporary artist. Part nightmarish Goya sketch and part African tradition, his work draws on philosophy, theatre and literature to create erudite, political pieces. He's known for his draughtsmanship in pastels and charcoal, but is also noted for his expressionistic animation. "My job is to make drawings not to make sense," the artist has said.

For his first major solo show in London for 15 years, Kentridge presents a fantastic array of new works. You'll find six large installations, as well as videos and drawings. Look out including two of the artist’s immersive audio-visual pieces, The Refusal of Time (2012) and O Sentimental Machine (2003), which have never previously been exhibited in the UK.

Humanitarian, learned and yet laden with emotion, this William Kentridge exhibition will be one of the best art shows this autumn.
