Olivier Widmaier Picasso's mother, Maya, was the daughter of Pablo Picasso's long standing mistress Marie-Thérèse. They began a relationship when the bright and beautiful Marie-Thérèse was just 17 and he was 45. After 8 years the love affair ended, as Picasso fell for the surrealist photographer Dora Maar. When the two rivals crashed into each other accidentally in Picasso's studio one day, the artist invited them to fight out their differences.
