The fourth edition of 1:54 returns to Somerset House this October, right on time for the Frieze frenzy. With 40 exhibitors from around the world representing more than 110 African artists, 1:54 is Europe’s largest and most prestigious showcase of contemporary African art.

Founded in 2013 by Touria El Glaoui, 1:54 is set to dazzle from the outside in. Together with the gallery exhibits, brightly coloured sculptures will transform Somerset House into an exhibition platform of African multiplicity and diversity.

The fair will again be accompanied by FORUM, its extensive talks and events program which include lectures, film screenings and panel discussions with international curators, artists and art professionals. FORUM is curated by Koyo Kouoh, Artistic Director of RAW Material Company, Dakar.

1:54 will exhibit a cross-section of works including photography, sculpture and painting across Somerset House’s East, West and South Wings. An established and revered voice in African contemporary art, 1:54 is set to be an inspirational cultural platform not to miss this October.

Jidori is London’s major yakitori restaurant, a popular type of eatery in Japan where the menu consists of one main dish: chicken skewers. Here you can sample a wide range of these Japanese-style kebabs and more to get a flavour of authentic Japanese street food. The tsukune minced chicken skewer and katsu curry scotch egg are particular favourites of ours.
