Wig, stockings and bust at the ready, it's Euphegenia Doubtfire, dear, and she's here to make things ship-shape at the Shaftesbury Theatre. Yes, the hit 1993 movie Mrs. Doubtfire has been transformed into a comedy musical by Wayne and Karey Kirkpatrick, with a book by John O’Farrell and a steering hand from four-time Tony winner Jerry Zaks (Guys and Dolls).

Based on Anne Fine's 1987 novel Alias Madame Doubtfire, but better known from the film starring Robin Williams, the story follows a divorced, out-of-work dad, who disguises himself as a firm but vivacious Scottish nanny to get to spend time with his kids.

The musical ran on Broadway in 2020 and 2021, but the Covid pandemic and a slew of tepid reviews thwarted it drumming up too much hype. It arrives on the West End following a short run in Manchester and with a whole new cast breathing life into the feel-good, family tale. Gabriel Vick stars as the titular nanny.

  • Parsons

Parsons is a thoroughly old-fashioned spot, with a maroon-tiled facade, a white tiled interior and antique mirrors on which are written their daily changing selection of fresh whole fish which make up most of the mains. We love it.
