DIY party games for everyone
Let's get this party started with a few of our favourite family party games!
Don't switch on the television just yet – with more and more people opting to switch off and disconnect for the holidays, we suspect we'll all need some good old fashioned fun come Christmas day.
We all know Charades and Snap, but why not try some of these other great alternative party games? Some need cunning and wit, whilst others only require some pens and paper or just a single sock. Best of all, their all free (though some might cost you your dignity...)
Not a Monopoly meltdown in sight.
What is it? A drawing game that will make you cry with laughter. Instead of spreading a rumour and watching it get lost in translation à la the kid's game 'telephone', the group tries to pass a word around by drawing it. You can buy the proper game, or make your own.
Best for: 4-8 players of any age.
How to play:
1) Sit in a circle. Everyone picks a word card from the Telestrations deck and writes down the word on their flip pad. Then everyone passes their pad to their left.
2) Everyone looks at their new word and attempts to draw it. Then they cover the word and pass their picture to the left again.
3) Everyone writes down what they think the original word was based on the picture they can now see and flips the pad again to cover the picture. This continues around the group until all the flip pads have completed a full circle.
4) Next comes the fun part: take turns to turn through your flip pad and reveal the disastrous scrambling of the message and the hopeless drawing skills of your group.
How do I win? Impossible. This is a team game – you all sink or swim together.
Top tip: Telestrations comes with wipe-able flip pads, but you could potentially recreate this game with pens and paper.
