Ten restaurants turning up the culinary heat in Peckham in 2018
Exceptional coffee, awesome roasts, authentic Thai and irresistible South African brai bread: why Peckham is South East London's culinary nirvana
A gloriously eccentric and arty deli/cafe run by vivacious Persiana cookbook author Sally Butcher, her husband and fellow enthusiasts. Persepolis is bliss for foodies obsessed with discovering esoteric ingredients to cook with.
The cafe is ridiculously good value and Sally Butcher's menu is peppered with vibrant flavours and jewel like colours. The mezze platters are huge and likely to include muhummera (aubergine and walnut), falafel, homemade hummous with harissa, tabouleh with orange flower water. The menu usually includes wraps, soups, salads and hot dishes of the day such as fate (chickpeas with spinach, fried bread and vigorously garlic-laden tahini) or albaloo pulao – a classic Persian rice dish with dried sour cherries. The knickbocker glories are gloriously exotic.
Tea and rosewater drenched pastries cost £5.00 try saffron or cardamom tea and fragrant juices too.
