Since Fred Cooke began selling his jellied eels to weary shepherds en route to the City of London, Broadway Market London has been a pitstop for hungry East Londoners. It’s no different today, with a bustling street food market taking place every Saturday.

Banh Mi

The invention of Hanoi expats longing for the cooking of their hometown, Banh Mi sells Vietnamese baguettes filled with marinated pork, slow roasted or twice grilled, and fresh handmade Summer Rolls with salmon and dill.

Lucky Chip

The house speciality here is the humble chip, but Lucky Chip have found many ways to make it a contender, even in a busy gourmet food market. Toppings range from plain cheese to Wasabi Mayo, and every portion comes with an optional slug of truffle oil.

Yum Bun

Inspired by Japanese food titan David Chang of Momofuku, owner Lisa Meyer sells steamed buns filled with Blythburgh pork belly and slow roasted lamb with aubergine jam.

Eat My Pies

Taking pride in Great British food, Eat My Pies sells hot meaty pies in a variety of sizes, as well as hearty scotch eggs, bread and butter pudding and custard and treacle tarts.

The London Marshmallow Company

Making handcrafted marshmallows in seasonal flavours, this couple source all their spices and fruit from local markets and London’s Docklands. Try the Almond and Sour Cherry, but prepareto be hooked.

  • REBEL REBEL

Broadway Market florist, Rebel Rebel, now provides flowers to names like Christian Dior and the Baftas. Pick up a beautiful bunch of wild flowers, or even attend a workshop where you can learn to craft your own seasonal bouquet.

    FAMILY TRADE

Fred Cooke’s grandson, Bob, can be found on Broadway Market, still selling the pie, mash and jellied eels from where it all began.
