Hilary Lawson, founder of the festival, said: 'We are delighted to launch HowTheLightGetsIn Global, an event which will take intellectual debate out of the ivory tower and provide a worldwide forum for democratic, critical discussion between leading thinkers and festival-goers alike, from all corners of the world and all walks of life.'
Taking place from Saturday 19 to Sunday 20 September, this new online evolution of the esteemed philosophy and music festival offers three programmes of events, curated to the three different time zones to ensure a truly global experience.
Each line-up is shaped around the moral issues, scientific developments and political landscape of the region of the world represented by that specific city: London for Europe and Africa, Delhi for Asia and Australia, and New York for the Americas. Over hundreds of discussions and events featuring leading thinkers across the arts and sciences, plus a lively selection of live comedy, music, cabaret and performance, the festival will unite creatives and experts from across the world. And thanks to the accessibility of the online programme, these ideas can be shared with a larger audience than ever before.
In total there will be 19 hours of live events each day, so whatever time zone or sleep cycle you're working to, there'll be something stimulating to stream at this online festival. The full programme is still to be announced, but confirmed speakers so far include politician Rory Stewart, American satirist PJ O'Rourke, human rights activist Bianca Jagger, Nobel Prize winning economist Joseph Stiglitz, newspaper columnist Polly Toynbee and many more.
Ensuring that the full festival experience comes to life on your screen, HowTheLightGetsIn online festival will include a virtual festival map where you can explore the virtual venues and special social spaces where you can mingle with fellow festival-goers. There is even a Disco Tent with live DJ sets, which you can join via video call to create a dance party at home.
