New bridal brands 2020: plus size to high street

The bad old days of one-size-fits-all bridal style are well and truly behind us, as fashion-conscious brides increasingly want to bring their own style to their big day. And clever brands are responding to demand.
From the high-fashion collection from one of our favourite retailers to the affordable solution to the modern multi-event wedding dress dilemma, read on for the most exciting developments in bridal style 2020.

The Matchesfashion.com wedding edit

There's been a shift in recent years away from established bridal brands towards beautiful pieces from pure fashion brands. It's canny, then, of Matchesfashion.com's buying director Natalie Kingham to have commissioned exclusive, wedding-perfect pieces from some of the retailer's most popular brands.

The 250-piece collection launched as 'the wedding & event dressing edit' this January and will be updated with regular drops year round. The collections have been conceived with six bridal personalities in mind: Romantic, Fashion Pioneer, Curator, Free Spirit, Purist and Warrior.

Brides-to-be (or those simply dreaming) will be able to choose from special collections by designers including Christopher Kane, Molly Goddard, Erdem and Stephen Jones. While big day ready designs from more than 65 designers include fashion from Batsheva, The Row, Rat & Boa, Ganni and Loewe and accessories by Alighieri, Roger Vivier and Sophie Bille Brahe.

Sleeper

Beloved on Instagram for its feather-trimmed party pyjamas and slinky slip dresses, Sleeper is following its wearers to a natural conclusion and introducing a dedicated bridal collection.

A heady combination of sensual shapes and delicate details, the collection focuses on silk and linen pieces, while a cape and gloves are a fun and fashion-forward way to make a statement.

Ashley Graham x Pronovias

While Pronovias is regarded as one of the most size-inclusive of the bridal brands, its collaboration with model Ashley Graham has caused it to go even further.

Having struggled to find a dress for her own 2010 wedding, Graham was forced to add a panel to a smaller dress in order to make do. So she's understandably thrilled to be able to bring more choice to plus size brides-to-be with a 16-piece capsule collection that focuses on structure and fit thanks to a built-in shapewear and bra combination. The collection – which also includes a pretty foxy riff on a black lace tuxedo – will launch in March 2020, and be available in UK sizes 4 to 38. Prices will start from £1,500.

The Kitri bridal edit

A result of the frustrations that Kitri founder and creative director Haeni Kim experienced when planning her big day, the brand's move into bridal has been met with great excitement.

The pretty dresses and jumpsuits are designed for the multiple events that modern weddings often now encompass. From the civil ceremony to the night before dinner and the morning-after brunch barbecue, there are plenty of non-traditional and affordable options in this nine-piece capsule collection.
