Sing-along screenings in London to book now

By Ella Kemp on 17/1/2020

Dirty Dancing, The Greatest Showman, The Sound of Music and more: every sing-along to know about in London this year

Sometimes, the joy of a trip to the movies is found in the silence and darkness, solitude and reflection of a couple of hours of downtime. But other times, there's nothing more electric than the sense of community that comes from a group rendition of every best musical hit, with rows and rows of fans singing along in unison.

London is spoilt for choice when it comes to musical screenings, but a few key titles are on the cards for 2020. Read on for the guide of every sing-along screening worth booking for now. Get the vocal rehearsals going...

The Greatest Showman

It's been over two years since it first came out, and yet the all-singing all-dancing Hugh Jackman-starring musical is still the most popular sing-along ticket in London. Head over to the Prince Charles for an interactive experience to remember, getting to know the very loose story of PT Barnum and the genesis of the circus.

19 January - 12:30PM (The Prince Charles Cinema)
1 February - 5:30PM (The Prince Charles Cinema)
23 February - 12:30PM (The Prince Charles Cinema)
22 March - 12:30PM (The Prince Charles Cinema)
19 April - 12:30PM (The Prince Charles Cinema)
17 May - 12:30PM (The Prince Charles Cinema)
28 June - 12:30PM (The Prince Charles Cinema)

Grease

Carrying on the belated 40th anniversary celebrations, a new wave of screenings for Grease is coming to the Prince Charles this summer and heading way into the chillier months too. Don your finest leather jackets, dance-alongs are optional but highly encouraged.

21 February - 8:30PM (The Prince Charles Cinema)
20 March - 8:30PM (The Prince Charles Cinema)
24 April - 8:30PM (The Prince Charles Cinema)
29 May - 8:30PM (The Prince Charles Cinema)
26 June - 8:30PM (The Prince Charles Cinema)

The Sound of Music

It's somewhat surprising that when we think of The Sound of Music, we never think of the fact that it's 2h54min long. But, when you're singing along gleefully surrounded by likeminded musical lovers, time truly does fly, doesn't it? Experience the time-travelling magic for yourself over the next six months at the Prince Charles to see for yourself.

24 January - 7:30PM (The Prince Charles Cinema)
16 February - 1PM (The Prince Charles Cinema)
13 March - 7:30PM (The Prince Charles Cinema)
26 April - 1PM (The Prince Charles Cinema)
19 June - 7:30PM (The Prince Charles Cinema)

The Lion King

Decades before it was made into a live-action adventure, one of Disney's finest animations has been able to boast faultless music, extremely attractive to sing along to. Whether you're more of a Timon or a Pumba, there's certainly a line for you.

7 March - 8:45PM (The Prince Charles Cinema)
5 April - 2:15PM (The Prince Charles Cinema)

Dirty Dancing

While there aren't quite as many karaoke numbers in Dirty Dancing, the handful of songs most definitely deserve a stage that's just as big. Join Baby and Johnny at the Prince Charles on two very special nights only.

7 May - 8:30PM (The Prince Charles Cinema)

The Rocky Horror Picture Show

One of the best cult cinemagoing experiences, screenings of The Rocky Horror Picture Show have always had an interactive element to them. Audiences were encouraged to bring props and don fancy dress, with rice and toast for wedding scenes, water for thunderstorms and more. Whether these ingredients will be mandatory remains to be seen, but there's certainly a sizeable back catalogue of hits to keep the mind occupied during these screenings if not.

30 January - 8:30PM (The Prince Charles Cinema)
27 March - 8:30PM (The Prince Charles Cinema)
15 May - 8:30PM (The Prince Charles Cinema)
17 July - 8:30PM (The Prince Charles Cinema)
