Some people – my mother is undoubtedly one – are wise enough to embrace physical changes when they come. Others are keen to cling to a semblance of youth. I have to confess that I am one of them. Today, I get beauty treatments regularly: HydraFacials are my favourite, and I have tried the occasional radiofrequency.
I also resort to injectables twice a year, although taking the step took me a while. I was worried about the outcome and that everyone, especially my mother, would easily spot it. When poorly done, Botox and fillers can transform faces beyond recognition and make you look like a parody of your younger self. But when done well, they help you age gracefully and are great morale boosters. The key, of course, is to find someone you trust who knows what they are doing. And then, a cool young friend introduced me to Georgina Williams. ‘She is incredible,’ she said. ‘But hush, she is too good, don’t share with anyone.’

And no wonder… During my first encounter with Georgina (whom I've now been seeing for three years), I was struck by her kind attention and down-to-earth attitude. She immediately felt like a friend. Meanwhile, her CV was more than impressive. One of the youngest graduates of her generation, she holds a first-class degree in medicine and neuroscience, specialising in facial and breast plastic surgery and microsurgery. She trained in London’s best hospitals, as well as in California, France and Italy. She is an NHS plastic surgery consultant at Charing Cross and St Mary’s Hospitals, where she performs very tricky breast and facial reconstructions that she prepares meticulously. ‘I always revisit my plans for a procedure the day before and scrutinise my results carefully afterwards to constantly improve my patients' results.’
Unsurprisingly, her agility in dealing with precise procedures is second to none. But there is an artistic dimension to Georgina’s aesthetic approach beyond technical prowess. ‘My passion is plastic surgery,' she tells me, 'but I have other passions that influence my career. I genuinely love the arts, opera, music, and beautiful things. And I think that helps when you are a plastic surgeon because you have an eye for it. I always loved sketching faces when I was a child.’
