Prud’hon: Napoleon’s Draughtsman at the Dulwich Picture Gallery is the first UK exhibition devoted to the exceptional work of Napoleon’s celebrated court painter and draughtsman, Pierre-Paul Prud’hon. Timed to coincide with the Battle of Waterloo celebrations 2015 marking the 200th anniversary, this show spotlights one of the most outstanding talents working in post-Revolutionary Paris.

Influenced by both the Neoclassical and Romantic style dominant at the turn of the nineteenth century, Prud’hon’s skill and creative vision is highly distinctive and unique. The exhibition showcases 13 drawings that celebrate Prud’hon’s exceptional talent and his role as court artist to Napoleon and his wife Josephine. His life studies, drawn exclusively from live models in black and white chalk, are truly stunning and display his renowned mastery of expression.
Be sure to head to the Dulwich Picture Gallery this summer to indulge in the sensuality and mysterious beauty of this draughtsman’s little-known masterpieces.
