McCauley ('Mac') Conner is one of the influential New York illustrators that helped to rebrand postwar America in the 1940s-60s. Conner's hand-painted illustrations in the pages of Cosmopolitan and Good Housekeeping ooze 50s style and offered an image of carefree American life that was drastically different to the depression in contemporary Europe. Big names on Conner's roster of clients included United Airlines, U.S. Army Recruiting and General Motors.
You'll discover some of Conner's published work at House of Illustration along with fascinating reference photos, pastel sketches, glossy printed pages and correspondence with major publications that brings the bustle of 1950s New York to life.
