Daiwa Foundation exhibition
Discreetly situated overlooking Regent’s Park, The Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation deserves greater recognition for hosting one of the most engaging programmes of exhibitions and talks by Japanese artists outside Japan itself. The next show features renowned photographer Yukihito Masuura’s experimental depictions of the sculptures of Michelango, Rodin and Bourdelle.
Yukihito Masuura biography
After travelling to Paris to work with Guy Bourdin for French Vogue at the age of eighteen, Masuura has had a diverse and multinational career photographing classical art and places of spiritual significance.
London photography exhibition 2015
In 2013 he was given the honour of photographing sengu ceremonies at the Shinto shrines, Ise Jingu and Izumo Taisha: events which occur at these shrines once every twenty years. These delicate images, composed with a respectful humility that evokes the nature of their subjects, are on display at the show. Masuura explains this exhibition will ‘express my wishes for a peaceful world’.
