Emma Critchley: At the Still Point of the Turning World, CABIN Gallery

Looking for photography exhibitions in London? Emma Critchley’s underwater photographs capture the fluidity of time beneath the surface

Figures of Speech series 2 by Emma Critchley
At the Still Point of the Turning World is a photography exhibition and off-site video installation by the award winning Emma Critchley, artist and underwater photographer. Expect sinewy and ethereal floating bodies aplenty in this London photography exhibition.
Who is Emma Critchley?
Critchley is particularly interested in capturing the transitory experience of being submerged in water, a focus best expressed by her fascination with the act of breathing. In her photographs, each expelled bubble links the worlds above and below the water line, and connects our internal body to the external world.
You might recall the site-specific video by Emma Critchley, Aria (2013), where a free driver was immersed in a shipping container on Brighton’s seafront to the sound of a female soprano.
CABIN Gallery, London exhibition
You’ll discover at this London contemporary art gallery, Critchley’s arresting images which unite her love of photography and her passion for diving. Cabin Gallery presents Critchley’s exploration of the ways in which light, shadows, and even time twist and change in this liquid medium.
Chelsea College of Arts exhibition
The video installation, You, will be shown simultaneously at the Chelsea College of Arts, London. This immersive film continues our voyage into the relationship between time and water, and shows how in submersion the subject and viewer are locked forever in an eternal present.
In the middle of hectic London life, Critchley’s atmospheric pieces ask us to pause and consider the fluidity of time itself. Of all the photography exhibitions London, this small show is worth a peak if you are looking for things to do in South London.
