The ICA London presents the first solo exhibition from Israeli artist Dor Guez in a UK art gallery which considers the volatile history of the Middle East.
Who is Dor Guez?
A scholar and artist of Christian Palestinian and Jewish Tunisian descent now based in Jaffa, Israel; Guez is considered a leading critical voice from the Middle East.
ICA exhibition London
Featured at the ICA is Guez’s installation, The Painter which is based on a body of work entitled The Sick Man of Europe. This series tells the story of a Jewish-Tunisian painter-turned-soldier, who was conscripted as a reservist soldier in the 1973 Yom Kippur War. Undergoing psychiatric treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder, the soldier had his memories of the war recorded over and over again. These recordings have become central to Guez’s work, which considers how the past is changed through storytelling.
Dor Guez’s London exhibition provides an original perspective on how contemporary art can relate unwritten histories, making a visit to the ICA a must on your list of things to do in Central London.
