Roy Voss: All the World’s a Sunny Day, Matt's Gallery

Artist Roy Voss uses his work to explore the relationship between text, object and image. At his new contemporary art exhibition at Matt’s Gallery, London, Voss promises to revisit this theme from a new angle.
What will the exhibition be like?
All the World’s a Sunny Day comprises a series of collage works which Voss has created from old postcards. Extracting a word from the private messages scrawled on the back, Voss then superimposes a single word onto the front image. Through this process the image and text begin to interact in new, interesting ways as objective description and subjectivity are brought together to form short, open-ended narratives.
In an age of instant communication, when friends or relatives are only a few emoticons or selfies away, these postcards from the early 1960s to the mid-1980s seem movingly quaint. Familiar and yet outdated, these intimate blue biro messages take on new meaning at the hands of this innovative contemporary artist.
