Caragh Thuring, Chisenhale Gallery

Looking for east London exhibitions? Caragh Thuring breaks down the viewing process in a new show of paintings at Chisenhale Gallery

Caragh Thuring, Chisenhale Gallery
In her first solo exhibition in a public space, London-based artist Caragh Thuring considers how long it takes to consume an image at Chisenhale Gallery
Caragh Thuring: artistic style
Caragh Thuring paintings are loosely constructed and explore the recurring motifs of pyramids, brickwork, volcanoes and the human silhouette. As her
images unfold, the viewer is prompted with fragments of information that force you to construct the rest of the scene for yourself. In this way, Thuring attempts to break down our pre-set way of reading a painting; the viewer’s visual recognition pattern is interrupted and they become directly involved in the work.
Caragh Thuring Chisenhale highlights
Highlights of the exhibition include her paintings of window displays in suburban Dutch homes which echo a traditional genre in the Netherlands. Also look out for two back-to-back paintings listing all the churches within a square mile of the City of London. While the buildings appear timeless and untouchable, they become unintentionally rebellious spaces.
This quiet contemporary art exhibition at Chisenhale Gallery, London is perfect for quiet autumnal contemplation.
