From September 2014 the Russian foundation V-A-C will present its acclaimed collection for the first time at the Whitechapel Gallery, giving us a rare chance to see some pivotal modern works.  Divided into four exhibitions each with a different guest curator, installation artist Mike Nelson will take the helm first, with a star-studded exhibition featuring works by Louise Bourgeois, Constantin Brancusi and Alberto Giacometti. Then in December another Turner Prize nominee, Fiona Banner, will be adding her unique vision to the Whitechapel Collections Gallery.
What is V-A-C?
While Russian sponsorship has not been the most popular topic in recent months this not for profit private institution is giving us a reason to make positive noises. Created in 2009 in Moscow the foundation supports not only burgeoning Russian artists and the promotion of contemporary Russian art but international figures too. The collection is also absolutely staggering, with listed works by Francis Bacon, Amedeo Modigliani and Andy Warhol to name just a few.
