Dame Vivienne Westwood
Good old Dame Viv, tireless environmental campaigner and the woman who brought you punk and new wave fashion, will be gracing the Chelsea Old Town Hall this October as she talks to Guardian columnist Deborah Orr about her long and illustrious career.
As Vivienne Westwood is one of the world's most celebrated and influential fashion designers, as well as a particularly charismatic, opinionated, and vocal individual, this event looks set to be a particularly interesting one. And if her forthcoming memoir is anything to go by, in which she opens up about her abusive relationship with Malcolm McLauren, Vivienne's willingness to share her life stories will make this rare event particularly special.
As well as including candid discussion on the effect McLauren had on her life and on a variety of other topics, the soon-to-be-released book was co-written with Ian Kelly and will feature contributions from Westwood's friends including Deborah Harry, Tracey Emin, and the Prince of Wales, spanning the establishment of her first trail-blazing shop on the Kings Road, to the Sex Pistols and the birth of punk, all the way up until her OBE and activism on behalf of Greenpeace and Liberty. And aside from having a chance to purchase the book for a discounted price at the event, guests will enjoy an unmissable evening exploring of the life and work of this seminal British icon.
