Secret Life of Humans, New Diorama Theatre

Fact, fiction, science and history combine in New Diorama theatre company's urgent play, which impressed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival

Secret Life of Humans, New Diorama Theatre
Fact and fiction combine in Diorama theatre's play inspired by Yuval Harari's best-selling book Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind.

Described by critic Lynn Gardner as 'ambitious, intelligent and moving... a story that unfolds with thriller-like precision and has real visual flair' when it premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe, Secret Life of Humans transfers to London with a trail of positive reviews.

Writer and director David Byrne plumbs deep into ideas of destruction and legacy in a story that encompasses three time frames. We follow famous scientist Dr Jacob Bronowski, author of The Ascent of Man, as he works on top secret and lethal, wartime projects. In the present day, we meet Bronowski's grandson and his tinder date as they unearth family secrets. And, in the most distant past, we get glimpses of our ancestors.

It's a dense and complex story, packed into a short play. But this combination of history, science, fact and fiction will leave you with plenty to think about.
