Forget Me Not at the Bush Theatre is a touching exploration of the legacy of child migration policies

In Tom Holloway’s Forget Me Not at the Bush Theatre, a buried secret in British history is revealed through one man’s discovery of his past. After the Second World War, Britain sent orphans to imperial posts including Australia to increase the populations of these countries. Except that many of these children were not orphans, and instead were torn from families who were misinformed about where their sons and daughters were going.
Gerry (Russell Floyd) is one these children: brought up mainly on farms in rural Australia, after having been long since separated from his mother (Eleanor Bron). With help from his daughter Sally (Sarah Ridgeway) and her love interest Mark (Sargon Yelda), Gerry confronts his own traumatic history and travels to a home he never knew. With solemnity and a great deal of gravitas, Forget Me Not explores the living legacy of Britain’s child migration policy not by portraying the rift of the past but by imagining reconciliation and reunion in the present.
