Gob Squad: London 2015
You might never have heard of Gob Squad, theatre's ground-breakers and veterans of the rich artistic relationship that has grown between London and Berlin over the last two decades. Famous for blurring the boundaries between art and theatre, fiction and reality, much of the interactive and immersive work we now see in mainstream venues comes from their early experiments. All fans of the thrilling experiences brought to us by companies such as Shunt, Ontroerend Goed and METIS should not miss this rare appearance at the Southbank Centre!
Gob Squad's Western Society explores the way in which the internet and our digital existences are making us increasingly alienated, even amongst the most mundane of environments. Having discovered a home video of a kareoke party going on in someone’s typical living room, the performers commit themselves to re-enacting this tiny fragment of personal history. We can expect flamboyant costumes, a mix of technology amongst the live performance and certainly the potential for some audience involvement on this mission. Expect thrills, surreal humour, and a fascinating insight into one of Europe’s most innovative, boundary-pushing collectives.
