While We're Here, Bush Theatre

Visitors playwright Barney Norris returns to the Bush Theatre with a new play about two former lovers meeting again on a park bench

Barney Norris play While We're Here Bush Theatre 2017
With first Visitors (Arcola Theatre and Bush Theatre, 2014) then Eventide (Arcola Theatre, 2015) and now a new novel, writer Barney Norris has swiftly emerged as one of our most exciting new voices.

He co-founded touring theatre company Up In Arms along with director Alice Hamilton with the aim to 'make plays about people and the places they’re from'. The result so far has been warm, witty and gently elegiac dramas, chronicling small towns and fading ways of life.

New play While We're Here, which premieres as part of the 2017 Bush Theatre season, revolves around former lovers who reunite. Eddie and Carol meet on a park bench in the town where they used to live, years after separating and moving away. Along with memories between them, there are all the connections to the places they see around them. Expect gently yet probing dialogue and a story rooted in the realities of living, loving and moving on.
