Guardian Live: EU Referendum Debate, Emmanuel Centre

Nick Clegg and Nigel Farage are among those debating the EU referendum

Nick Clegg
It’s a question with which we’re all familiar; that resounds from dinner tables to the Houses of Parliament. Should the UK remain in the EU? In 2016, it's also a question that may well be answered. Although a fixed date is yet to be set for the EU referendum, the vote could be as early as this June. In any case, it’s a subject that’s likely to dominate political discussion over the coming months, fuelling editorials and polarising parliamentary opinion.

On March 15, The Guardian’s incoming political editor Anushka Asthana hosts an EU referendum debate with notable representatives from across the political spectrum. Former Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg is among the speakers, and so too is Alan Johnson, a keen advocate of EU membership and head of the Labour Yes campaign.

Also on the bill is UKIP leader Nigel Farage, quite possibly the country’s most prolific opponent of EU membership. Rounding off the program is Lord Nigel Lawson, president for the Conservatives for Britain campaign.

Given such diversity of opinion, expect frank exchanges and vastly divergent opinions on one of the year’s defining political questions.
