What we eat has far-reaching implications for our own well-being as well as for that of the planet. To coincide with the government’s new plans to reduce obesity, 5x15 take a look at what goes on our plates. The evening is to be hosted by Michael Mosley, the man behind the 5:2 diet, and journalist Rosie Boycott who has long been involved in healthy eating campaigns.

Heading up the bill is Jamie Oliver, beloved TV chef, restaurateur and an ardent campaigner for healthy eating. With 'Jamie's School Dinners', he led a campaign to revolutionise the way young people eat, and since then has worked tirelessly to improve the quality of what we consume. Nutrition is evidently a cause close to his heart so expect plenty of passion, and more than a dash of charm.

He's joined on stage by Philip James, a leading expert in nutrition and current President of the International Association for the Study of Obesity. He's also chaired WHO Europe, and convinced Tony Blair to establish the UK Food Standards Agency. But these are only a handful of his achievements; it really is difficult to think of somebody more well-qualified on the issues than he is.

Author and Guardian columnist George Monbiot is an ardent environmentalist who has written on topics ranging from growing your own vegetables to the inefficiency of eating meat. His talk on corporate food is sure to prove as illuminating and intelligently argued as his columns.

Also on the line-up is A.A. Gill, an equally prolific columnist best known for his brilliantly forthright Sunday Times restaurant reviews. He’s due to speak on the meaning of food so we’re expecting discussion about the place that gastronomic pursuits hold in our culture.
