Poet in the City: Samuel Beckett, Barbican Centre

Poet in the City is planning a special celebration of Samuel Beckett poems with live readings and panel discussions

Poet in the City: Samuel Beckett, Barbican Centre
Immerse yourself in Beckett’s Nobel Prize winning poetry on 28 September with an array of expert speakers to help you get to grips with Beckett’s notoriously abstruse work.
Celebrated actress Lisa Dwan (who has been performing Beckett plays since 2005) will treat her audience to live readings from Beckett poems. Dwan was most recently seen in a Beckett triptych: Not I/Footfalls/Rockaby, which played at the Barbican and the Royal Court.
These performances will be supplemented by a panel discussion chaired by leading experts including editor of Samuel Beckett Collected Poems John Pilling and Beckett’s personal friend and biographer James Knowlson.
For those who are more familiar with Samuel Beckett plays (Waiting for Godot, End Game…), this talk offers a chance to explore another side of the dramatist’s oeuvre, which similarly reveals the writer’s tragicomic outlook on human existence.
A veritable icon, talented enough to write in both French and English, Poet in the City’s spotlight on Beckett will afford him the attention he so clearly deserves. For more information on the event, visit their website.
