Literary Lunch with Jessie Burton
Ever think that a two hour book discussion will feel like going back to school? This special afternoon event by literary charity First Story takes away the formality of a lecture hall, by inviting bibliophiles to a lunch date with their favourite author. And if ever there was a book that could keep us talking over a leisurely lunch it's Jessie Burton's The Miniaturist.
The Miniaturist: book of the year

Following newly-wed Nella as she arrives in Amsterdam, the taut mystery entwines the murky underworld of 17th century trade with a domestic web of secret romances and family tensions. With a plot as intricately crafted and surprising as the dolls house at the heart of the story, Burton's debut novel was a publishing sensation, scooping her 'New Writer of the Year' and 'Overall Book of the Year' at the 2014 National Book Awards -- and a personal letter from none other than Hilary Mantel in praise of the prose. The TV rights have already been snapped up, so expect to see the story on screens soon.
Jessie Burton: actress to author
The backstory to The Miniaturist is just as interesting as the story itself. After being inspired by an ancient dolls house in the Riijksmuseum on a weekend break to Amsterdam, Burton put her acting ambitions on hold and began writing her first novel. We're fascinated to find out more about her writing process and hopefully get a sneak peek into Burton's hotly-aniticapted second book.

The £60 ticket includes lunch, wine, tea, coffee and chocolates. All profits will go towards helping First Story's charitable work with disadvantaged children.
