Poetry Reincarnation: Roundhouse
Poetry events London
Ordinarily, The Roundhouse exists to celebrate and promote today's ‘young creatives’. But this spring they’re doing away with everything juvenile and 21st century to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the First International Poetry Incarnation - 60s style.
The Roundhouse: First International Poetry Incarnation
Hosting this evening and reminiscing about the first time seven thousand people packed the Royal Albert Hall to witness the birth of 60s counterculture, is Dan Cockrill. He will be joined on stage with a host of poetry greats, including: Michael Horovitz, Patience Agbabi, Francesca Beard, Steven Berkoff, Malika Booker, Eleanor Bron, Pete Brown, John Cooper Clarke, Salena Godden, John Hegley, Adam Horovitz Libby Houston, Cecilia Knapp, Elivs McGonagall, Kei Miller, poets from Jack White’s Third Man Books and the William Blake Klezmatrix Band, featuring Vanessa Vie, Gwyneth Herbert, Annie Whitehead and Peter Lemer.
The First International Poetry Incarnation
The birth of 60s counterculture, and the spoken word as we know it, is well remembered by Michael Horovitz: "By a miracle of happenstance the First International Poetry Incarnation was a moment when 8,000 people came together, looked around, and thought: this is a new beginning," he said. Come and join them in remembering that fresh start  and the underground scene that celebrated poetry, jazz, protest politics and the kind of free love hippies would adopt two years later.
