Dylan Thomas Centenary Gala, Southbank Centre

A musical and literary celebration of the life and works of Dylan Thomas on the eve of his 100th birthday. Camerta Wales Orchestra perform, with narration by Griff Rhys Jones.

Dylan Thomas Centenary Gala, Southbank Centre
The Southbank Centre is hosting an exciting programme of new works inspired by Dylan Thomas and a series of readings in a concert to celebrate the Welsh poet's centenary.
The music will be performed by the Camerata Wales orchestra, conducted by Owain Arwel Hughes CBE. It is the London premiere of three pieces, which reflect or were inspired by the musicality of Thomas's verse. And yet more music will be confirmed nearer the time. To compliment the performances there will be poetry readings from guest stars, including award-winning actors Siân Phillips, Tom Hollander, Jonathan Pryce and Alex Jennings. Also, as stage and screen stalwart Sir Patrick Stewart is an honorary patron of the Dylan Thomas memorial festivals, there's a chance he may be a part of the performance... Actor, presenter and comedian Griff Rhys Jones, famed for his role in sketch shows including Not the 9 O'Clock News and for co-establishing Talkback productions company, will also give a reading and narrate the evening.
The fusion of poetry and music promises to be a rousing way to commemorate the legendary poet, and is the finale to the Dylan Thomas in Fitzrovia festival.
