On October 4th, bestselling authors Caitlin Moran and Kate Mosse join Clare Balding for the final event of the Blinkbox Books launch festival at Cadogan Hall.
When it comes to issues of modern womanhood, Caitlin Moran has one of the loudest voices around; tirelessly promoting her own brand of "strident feminism".
Moran has written for the Times since she was seventeen, but it was her 2011 book How to Be a Woman that really made her name. Widely praised for its wit and bare-all frankness, How to Be A Woman, exists somewhere between memoir and manifesto, setting out to break down taboos surrounding female experience. In July of this year, Moran returned with another instructionally-titled work, How to Build a Girl , a take on the coming of age novel, which tells the (semi-autobiographical) tale of a working class girl growing up in Wolverhampton.
Kate Mosse is another of Britain’s most prominent writers, best known for her 2005 novel Labyrinth , which weaves together the stories of two heroines: the first, a 21st Century archaeologist, the second, a teenage girl growing up in 13th Century Carcassonne. Her now novel, The Taxidermist's Daughter , a ghost story set in early 20th Century Sussex, is due for release in September.
Mosse is an accomplished writer who, like Moran, is interested in female experience. Their conversation with Clare Balding, who is equally outspoken about feminist issues and has previously made a documentary about the suffragette movement, promises to be a fascinating close to the Blinkbox Books launch festival.
