Poetry Portraits, Kings Place

A fusion of poetry and art with an exhibition of specially commissioned portraits and talks from poets Wendy Cope, Jo Shapcott and David Harsent

Poetry Portraits, Kings Place
What does it mean to be a poet, and how do questions of personal identity enter into poetry? What are the parallels between literary and visual art, and how can one help us understand the other? These are just some of the questions that will asked at Poetry Portraits.
Poet in the City presents the finale of a year-long project celebrating some of the UK's leading poets through fine art. Poets including the late Seamus Heaney, Sir Andrew Motion and Wendy Cope have been captured in a series of stunning portraits, by artists from Lavender Hill Studios.
With live readings and conversation, this special event will ask what it means to be a poet. Exploring ideas of identity, the personal and the craft of poetry, Poetry Portraits sheds new light on the work of some of our most important contemporary voices. Featuring readings and discussion from acclaimed poets Wendy Cope, Jo Shapcott and David Harsent.
Poet in the City is a charity that aims to attract new audiences to poetry. It runs over forty events each year, enables funding for poetic education and makes new connections for the art form.
Founded in 2004, Battersea’s Lavender Hill Studios is Britain’s first atelier, training artists in the figurative tradition. It offers full and part time courses for both amateurs and professional artists who wish to refine their draughtsmanship.
