Dylan Thomas: Return Journey, British Library

A revival of this acclaimed production to mark Dylan Thomas's 100th anniversary, created from his writing, devised and performed by Bob Kingdom and originally directed by Anthony Hopkins.

Experience the dynamic presence of the poet Dylan Thomas, as his final lecture tour and the events leading up to the fatal last whiskey are brought to life by award-winning actor Bob Kingdom . The musical Welsh cadences and haphazard charisma are captured uncannily by the Cardiff-born actor.

As the directorial debut from Welsh actor turned Hollywood megastar Sir Anthony Hopkins, Return Journey shows a creative interpretation of Thomas's own famed one-man shows. The simplicity of this direction erodes the barrier between performer and audience and works to simultaneously recreate and reflect upon Thomas as a performer and writer. Hopkins was inspired to direct the show when he happed upon Bob Kingdom performing as Thomas: "[he] not only identifies with Dylan Thomas but sometimes, and often, the two personalities seem to merge. It is a remarkable performance" he said.

Premiering in Chelsea Arts Club over 25 years ago Return Journey went on to become a global sensation, which won hearts all around the world and was televised on Christmas day 1990.

As part of the farewell tour of Return Journey this a poignant event which marks the centenary of Thomas's birth and one of the last live performances of this stunning homage to the his life and writing.
