Songs on the Steps, Opera Holland Park

Free lunchtime entertainment for Londoners, with music from this year's productions

Holland Park picnickers are entertained by Songs on the Steps
Grab a rug or a chair, pick up a sandwich and head for Holland Park for one of the happiest daytime events in London.

As the Opera Holland Park season of new productions gets under way, artists give free recitals on Fridays off and on throughout the summer.

There is no charge to attend the entertainment performed from the steps of the summer palace of the London opera scene. But if this is your first taste of live song at Opera Holland Park, you may well be tempted to book for one of this year's promising shows, opening with Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin (from 31 May) and Bizet's Carmen (from 2 June).

Music at the lunchtime recitals will be drawn from this year's productions, so listen out too for Delius, Puccini, Arthur Sullivan and maybe a tantalising few notes from Mark Adamo's opera Little Women.

Songs on the Steps are on Fridays at 1PM on 27 May, 10 June, 24 June, 15 July and 29 July
