The Jinnee, Tête à Tête Opera Festival

Get ready to dance and sing along with this interactive family opera based on the ancient tale of Aladdin and his magical lamp.

Part opera, part workshop, the innovative musical experience of The Jinnee will introduce children from the age of five to the magic of opera. The popular tale of Aladdin, which originates in the ancient Arabian Nights tales and then became a family favourite thanks to the Disney film, is retold through operatic songs and lively dancing. The original eastern setting of the story is brought to life with modern musical touches, transforming the tale into an operatic adventure.

Along with a captivating performance, as the magical Jinnee is freed form his lamp to answer Aladdin’s wishes, there will also be plenty of opportunity for audience involvement . Children will be encouraged to take to the stage, where they will be taught a song and dance from the show. This addition of improvisation and hands-on participation engages the children in more than just narrative; they also discover the creative process of composition and the thrill of performing.

Royal College of Music graduate Louis Mander composed the score, while librettist and director Lauren Collins adapted the story into accessible and engaging lyrics.

Ideal for children age 5-13.
