If you only do one thing this October half term, let it be this: the London Science Museum's brand new interactive gallery, Wonderlab, has opened featuring more than 50 brilliant, immersive and cutting edge exhibits -- and by gum are we excited about it.

Right on the top floor of the Science Museum is the exhibition: seven zones designed around the national curriculum exploring sound, light, space, forces, electricity and mathematics where little ones can learn about science and the world around them in the most innovative and exciting ways.

Families test forces of friction and gravity by racing down slides covered in different materials, make lightening strike inside the walls of the gallery, make smoke rings out of mist, spin on a crazy round-about, watch different coloured lights change the surroundings about them and explore the days, nights and seasons with an enormous moving model of the solar system and our stars. Science has never been so cool.

Six million pounds have gone into this permanent gallery with unique exhibits and specially-commissioned artworks. The museum's talented team of science communicators and explainers potter about the different exhibitions giving talks and demonstrations or answering questions to help little ones (and their parents) learn whilst they're having fun.

By "revealing the beauty in the science and maths that shape our everyday lives", a visit to this new world-leading gallery is designed to kindle curiosity in the most vehement of science-haters. Hands-on experiments and explosive demonstrations will show just how central maths and science are to our everyday lives. How does mist form? What is an electron? How can I go as fast as possible on this round-about? The answers to these and much more can be found in the Science Museum's wonderfully exciting new space. Interactive is the word. See you there.
