Westminster Abbey, late night opening

Westminster Abbey opens late as part of Museums at Night 2016, can you spot the bearded lady?

Westminster Abbey late night
Westminster Abbey has been at the heart of London life since it first became the Coronation church under Edward the Confessor in 1066, through its development under King Henry 'the builder' III, and in it's present day guise. It has been the setting for many of the great events in the life of the nation, including sixteen royal weddings (not forgetting Wills and Kate's).

This glorious gothic pile has been the burial place of kings and queens, and of other distinguished figures in the nation’s history, from writers and musicians to politicians and scientists.

This October, it will play host to the Museums at Night festival, when it will open its doors until 9.00pm to let intrepid explorers wander through the hallowed hall in the dark of the night.

The Cellarium Cafe will also be open late with a special menu, so grab a bite after feasting your eyes on the wonders of the Abbey, which include Poet's Corner, the resting place of some of the nation's favourite poets, and the statue of Saint Wilgefortis, otherwise known as 'the bearded lady'.

Don't miss this rare opportunity to soak up the ambience of the great Abbey into the late evening.
