The British Museum: Children's Museums London

Go for the Ancient Egyptians, stay for the art: the British Museum is an eye-opening museum perfect for children in London

The British Museum
If you haven't been to the British Museum - unquestionably one of the best museum's for children in London - the most important thing to know is that it boasts an extraordinary collection of Ancient Egyptian artefacts: mummies and sarcophagus, as well as the controversial Elgin Marbles which were taken from the Parthenon in Athens by Lord Elgin and gifted to the museum in 1816 and never returned.
The museum is dedicated to human history, art and culture with a permanent collection numbering some 8 million works, which is among the largest and most comprehensive in existence. It is the product of Imperialism, and jam-packed with treasures from around the world. It's a must see museum for tourists and young families in London.
Families at the British Museum
As well as housing the world's largest collection of Ancient Egyptian artefacts outside of Cairo, the British Museum contains the most comprehensive collections of antiquities from the Classical World. This is the highlight for most children, who can admire the glittering treasures, learn the history and walk underneath the re-constructed Greek temples. For more advanced children, there are also departments exploring the cultures and history of the Middle East, prehistoric Europe, and Asia.
The museum is used to school children running around, and so provides family activities to keep restless children entertained and engaged. We cannot recommend this museum more highly.
