If you’ve got itchy feet and just know you can foxtrot like nobody else, but are not sure about the most appropriate setting to display your talents, worry not: Tea Dance with a Twist is just the thing.

Organised by DanceWest, a set up that provides dance opportunities and events for West Londoners aged 0-98, Tea Dance with a Twist is a special afternoon event with something for everyone.

There will be a live jazz band, led by Jack Honeyborne, the veteran pianist and band leader who’s a true legend in the UK jazz scene. The band will play numbers ranging from 1940s jazz classics to modern pop, and a lot more. So, whatever style is most in keeping with your preferences is bound to be catered for… and if you’re feeling adventurous, you can try something new. The young ones, in particular, are very likely to want to add to their repertoire.

Professional dancers will be there, too, to spice up the occasion. The range of their talents is varied: from flamenco expert Sam Quy, through avant-garde duo Thick & Tight, fresh from a well received performance at Sadler’s Wells’ Lilian Baylis studio as part of the London International Mime Festival.

The young performers of DanceWest Youth Company (pictured above) will put on their usual talented and energetic display; and at the other end of the scale Sadler’s Wells Company of Elders will perform an excerpt from a new work by choreographer Alexandra Seutin, which will premiere later in the year at the Lilian Baylis.

On arrival, ticket-holders will be treated to a glass of bucks fizz (or presumably the bucks without the fizz for the younger ones…), and the price of the ticket covers proper afternoon tea with sandwiches and cake.

The slots for dancing to the band will be interspersed with performances by the professional acts. And to make it all even more lively, punters are encouraged to dress in bright colours.

All in all a fun, immersive way for all the family to while away a Saturday afternoon in March…
